AIGUST INTERNET TRAVEL
Traveling on the Internet:
The Internet is a great place to plan sight seeing trips. It can also give you more information for guided tours. On tours it will make you the hit of the bus, because you will know what's ahead.
The problem is the computer is at home when your traveling and it is hard to see the map on the screen from the car. Even if you have a laptop for travel and find a Wi-Fi signal and hold it while the car is moving the screen is hard to read. Also the map on the screen is a bit small and the town names are to small to read while driving.
The solution is the use of the 46 States and 4 Commonwealths for all the free stuff that our taxes provide. Each State site offers a current state map by mail. These are updated each year and list the most current roads and any changes in Inter-States or local roads. They also contain City maps of the major Cities in the State. Listings of travel times between major points is listed in addition to the mileage. This will aid you in finding Hotels and attractions along your route. Ending your days travel twenty miles either way on your trip can save you real dollars for accommodations and provide a better choice of restaurants and attractions.
The State will also send you a Free brochure listing the best the State has to offer by region. These are current unlike the Travel guides you can buy. Each year the Tour offices of each city via to get space in the brochure. They include photos and maps which will help you get there the by the easiest route. Some of the bigger States have separate brochures for each region, making for more detailed information on your route. In Illinois alone you will discover "The Cat sup Bottle , The Popeye Stature, The 100 foot Cross, and Superman's hometown. And you thought there wasn't anything to see in Illinois.
How Do I Get This Great Stuff?
Each State has a Web site, the problem is finding the official site and not some travel site hawking wares. This is one of the problems with searching on Google, it often lists the travel sites first because they have more links and are accessed more often. All official State sites have the extension GOV. i.e Wisconsin.gov. The travel site have extensions like COM or NET. i.e. Illinoistravel.com . There is nothing wrong with these sites, but they only list their customer listings, and you can miss some great thing. To make your life easier I have listed the official sites of the States at the end of this document,
Once you have found the official site, look for Tourism, Travel, or Visiting our state link on the home page. They all have one, but the they all call it something different. Again you will have to search for the link offering to mail you the information. Most allow you to print your own information, but save ink, paper, and don't miss attractions by ordering the mail versions. You will have to provide your address and sometimes your phone number. Some ask for an email address so use the junk address we created two months ago. With that done check mark your areas of interest. and submit.
